Transcript:

Helping locally will take a lot of leadership.  There are not many avenues for you to help your neighbor or community with their debt issues.  Since it is also considered a socially private issue, many people feel very ashamed to talk about their personal finances with others.  But with a little leadership and non-profit material you can start a new group within your civic organization to help keep people accountable to their spending decisions.

Crown Financial is a nonprofit that provides some material for your group study about debt and accountability.  This is a 7 week course that provides some teaching about debt, budgeting, giving, stewardship,  and saving.  This is a very professional organization with some professional products and services.  This is a great product to use for your neighbors or community members to teach some fundamentals that schools don't really teach.

Debtors Anonymous is another opportunity you can get involved with or start in your community.  It is similar to Alcoholics Anonymous.  They have a 12 step plan that each person gets involved with to help each other reduce debt.  Debtor's Anonymous has a lot of resources to start your group and sustained for the long term.  Since it does take a long time to change a lifestyle of debt to a lifestyle of cash, Debtor's Anonymous have a long term approach to their group meetings.

BeatingDebt.org is another opportunity for you to consider to be involved with or start in your community.  This has similar accountability groups as Debtors Anonymous with some group study lessons similar to Crown Financial.  This organization has a 52 week lesson plan that participants can be apart of on their journey to helping each other stay away from debt.  This organization has many resources for you to use to start a group in your location.

These three nonprofit companies provide a great way for you to make a real impact in your local area to helping your community to stay away from debt.  With our combined efforts, we can make a difference in helping to reduce the amount of debt on consumers.
